A Day of Inspiration…..

Cherry Blossom Festival - Washington, D.C.

Cherry Blossom Festival – Washington, D.C.

We did it! In spite of the gray day, Prince Charming and I headed to DC on Sunday! What a fun day!

The drive was pretty once we got to the GW Parkway…and further into DC….people everywhere…buses everywhere…but once we got onto the side streets we could enjoy the views.

The cherry blossoms, the spring flowers blooming everywhere…purple, yellow, pink, red…the fountains and the beautiful buildings so full of architecural details….I especially appreciate those!

After driving around for awhile we ventured over to the National Gallery of Art. We even found a parking space right next to the east building….no small task!

Once inside we were awed by the exhibits…such beauty, such a display of awesome talent!

One of the most memorable exhibits we saw were stained glass windows from the 1300’s…yes, the 1300’s! AMAZING!

I would highly recommend visiting this Gallery and taking in the beauty of the permanent and temporary exhibits. There is even a restful place to eat by a huge babbling fountain in the west building…on the weekends they have what looked to be a very scrumptuous buffet, which we would have partaken of except we were there an hour past closing of the buffet…had we known…Mmmmm! Next time! And there will be a next time as we never made it to the Sculpture Gardens.

We did venture over to Union Station, another awesome building, for a quick bite to eat before heading home. We just grabbed a burger at one of the cafes, but I must tell you there is a fabulous “nice” restaurant for a special treat…that we’ve enjoyed in the past…B. Smith’s. They feature an incredible menu of Cajun, Creole and Southern cuisine…you can read more about it if you go to the B. Smith link to the right.

I can tell you this little getaway truly inspired us, renewed us and created some wonderful conversation for the drive home….what a nice way to begin the week! When I closed my eyes that night I was able to see many of the breathtaking pieces of artwork we’d seen earlier as I drifted off to sleep! Aaahhhhh!

What did you do for inspiration last weekend?
What will you do for inspiration this weekend?
May I suggest catching my segments on WHP-TV/CBS from 8 to 9 am Saturday for some “Spring Decorating Trends”!
